ASTM A299 specification covers manganese-silicon carbon steel plates for use in welded boilers and other pressure vessels. Plates under this specification are produced in two grades (A, B). Yield and tensile strength of Gr. B is higher than Gr. A. Due to high composition of C, Mn, Si. ASTM A299 is widely used for manufacturing pressure and boiler equipments. Plates of this standard under this thickness of 50 mm are normally supplied in as-rolled condition. Plates may be ordered normalized or stress relieved, or both. Plates over 50 mm in thickness shall be normalized.
